Does anyone remember the bar called Tropics?

Gibbo (mingle!)
I was in Calella for a couple of months in '78 looking for work. Unfortunately I got knocked over by a car (pi$$ed) and broke my leg and had to go home.
I have very fond memories of the time I had there.
I can remember PC, fosby, silly Pete, Coffee, Madrid and a Danish bar owner who i think was named Nils. PC gave me a lift back from the Hospital in Barcelona.
One of my closest mates is Billy Evans who was there for a few years.
Another mate who was with me was John Mann (the Head).
My favourite put there was The Red Lion.
Are any of the old pubs from '78 still there?

Remember you briedy and podge also worked for a month with barry and garry in tropics but Jorge sacked me for being hideously drunk. Remember the lizzies or at least the two Paulas from the trio also Shed, Spaghetti Dave and the D.J who had a bad stutter until he held a microphone to his mouth (Amazing but true). Hedonistic days to say the least. hello to anyone who remembers me and everyone who shared the similar experiences of working in Calella. Love this site. Will dig out some photos.

Hi guys,

Nice to see this blog. I didn’t work in Calella but was there June/July 89. We came allot in Cheers and had a great time. Of course with the boys from Cheers; Scottie, Tricky, Johnny, Jason (got sacked in August I believe), Tony (gipsy), etc and some girls we met Karen Stevenson and Katie, last name I can’t remember. I kept contact with Tricky for a short while and with Karen for 2 ½ year. Karen and Katie went back in August 89 and worked for a few weeks at Western Saloon. I know she kept contact with Scottie, Tricky and Tony at that time. I also know that Scottie kept contact with a friend of mine Natasja, at least he tried but it’s too long ago to say what happen.

Unfortunately Karen and me lost contact after those years and I’m searching already a while for her. Does anyone knows her and the boys. If so can you let me know where to find them. It’s difficult to find them on Facebook as their names come often and I cannot remember any last name from the boys.

Would be nice if I can find them after such a long time. Hope anyone can help!

Thanks
Josta (Netherlands)

I remember all you guys as most of you ate in the san jaime cafe.
The character that stands out for me was the great Eddie from Cheers because of his wisdom on life. also if i was to name a top party animal its probably Welsh Clive from the Blackbull, he knew how to party like a pep monster.
All my memories from that time were life changing, some fukin great times and some fukin tragedies too. But it was all amazing. Special Love sent to The Lizzies, i lived with you for 2 seasons,The Lizzies called me Debs, fuck knows why.

Paul 'George' was the the name of the owner of the Thames when we used to go there.
We went back a few years later but it wasn't the same sorry to say.
They had a small stage area built on the left as you go in the door, whereas before you could dance anywhere on the ground floor, but we usually sat upstairs on the O/s verandah.

Hi, my name is Theo, I'm from Holland. I worked in Calella in 1990. First as a DJ in the Western Saloon with Terry, Jaime and Elvira. Also 1 or 2 weeks in Manhattan, 1 day in Alcatraz with johnny Madrid. Then I was the DJ in The Thames. Worked there with Flip (the Dutch guy) and Ritchie. Can't remember the names of the owners at that time, was it George and his wife Julie? After that I did drive-inn shows in hotel Bon Repos, Esplai and some other hotels from which I can't remember the name anymore. I lived in Concorde apartments, just around the corner from Cheers. I was in Cheers almost every day, in the afternoon and after work. I finished with the drive-inn around midnight, after that most of the time I went to Cheers. And then after Cheers closes we went to Highwayman. I remember Knocker, Johnny the DJ, Andy (I bought him his first "broodje kroket", a Dutch snack) and the owner (was his name Paul?). I once had to bring him home in his car after he had fallen of someone's back when he was "surfing" on music of The Beach Boys. I still remember the last record of every evening in Cheers: Everything I own by Bread. I also remember Eddie (if I got the name right). I met him in Bob's the years before when I was in Calella on holiday. I think he was the owner of Cheers. He died on a heart attack the year I started working in Calella. There are more guys (and girls) from Cheers but I can't remember their names.
I also remember Clive from Wales. August started in Tropic that year, if I remember well he was working in Cheers the year(s) before. I know he went to Holland with Elvira the year after and started working there. Don't know if he's still living there.
At the end of the season I was the Dj in the discotheque underneath hotel Bon Repos. At that time a lot of the workers came there after they finished working.
I had a great time in Calella. Since then I always wanted to go back to Spain and that's what I did last year. I'm living a little more south now at the Costa Calida.

Anyone remember the night that the High club put on a competion for all the bars which involved dressing and singing to a popular song? I was in the Black Bull at the time and we did Chubby Checker and the fat boys, Welsh Clive went a bit overboard with the make up, Mad, great night.

Just remembered The Galeon, that was also a good after work club. Not a night went by without some kind of fight. Good times.
